Description:

(1891 - 1945) German field marshal who led German armies against fierce Russian resistance at Moscow and Kursk, threw back Montgomery's attack at Arnhem, and killed himself following his defeat in the Ruhr Pocket. Fine content war-date typed D.S. in indelible pencil, 1p. 4to., Aug. 7, 1941, an award of the War Merit Cross, 2nd Class with Swords to eight men in his command. File holes, else fine. These awards were likely for Model's dash to cross the Dnieper. He dispatched a heavy infantry force that would cross the river and establish a bridgehead, a mobile armored group that would pass through the bridgehead and continue the advance, and a fire support group containing nearly all his artillery. The plan worked so successfully that the river crossing cost scarcely any casualties. addition to 3rd Panzer as Gruppe Model, who then attacked to break up Soviet forces massing near Roslavl.
