WALTER HINTON (1888-1981) Early American aviator who founded the Aviation institute of U.S.A., most famous for completing the first ever transatlantic flight in 1919, nine years before Charles Lindbergh. A close friend of the Wright Brothers. A pair of photograph albums compiled and owned by Hinton himself containing 70+ original and press photographs documenting some of the most momentous events in Hinton's long career in aviation. The albums commence showing Hinton in Mexico in 1917 and with a Wright Flyer and early zeppelin. There follows photos of the crash of NC-2off Atlantic City, NC's in flight taken from the air during their transatlantic flight, the reception in Europe including a meeting with Winston Churchill, return to the U.S., the flights mapping Brazil, images with natives in the Amazon, various portraits (one signed), vintage portraits of Lindbergh (damaged) and Eddie Rickenbacker, examples of Hinton's letterhead and calling cards, and more. Also included is a May 30, 1927 telegram from Charles Lindbergh in Paris to the Adventurer's Club in New York declining to make definitive plans - he had arrived on the Spirit of St. Louis only days earlier.
