688. LEW WALLACE T.L.S. "Lew Wallace", 1p. 4to., Crawfordsville, Indiana, Nov. 2, 1897, to Louis Garesche regarding his biography of his father, JULIUS GARESCHE, published in 1887. In part: "I hope you will excuse me for requiring you to call my attention to the book, being a biography of your father... I have had time only to glance at the contents..." The senior Garesche had his head blown off by a cannonball at Stoney River, and his headless body continued to be carried by his horse for some distance. Usual folds, very good. $150-200
