RICHARD WAGNER (1813-1883) German composer, the originator of music drama, most evident in his epic works Tannhauser , Lohengrin , and his musical saga Der Ring des Nibelungen . Nice A.L.S. "Richard Wagner " 1p. 4to., Dresden, Mar. 4, 1845, in German to an unnamed recipient, in part: "...I feel compelled to write to you again to apologize for the rather severe tone of my last...reminder letter. Do not be angry with me...I am pleased it, through the little service I rendered for you, and by that I only mean the arranging for the loan of the sheet music, I was able to contribute something toward the success of your concert.. .". At the time of this letter, Wagner and his wife had moved to Dresden, where they remained until 1848. During this time, he wrote two of his memorable operas: Die Fliegende Hollander and Tannhauser. Handsomely framed with the lithograph showing the composer holding court in a sitting room with guests, folds, else very good, unexamined out of frame. $1,000-1,500
