Description:

A fascinating relic, a Waffen-SS issue wristwatch, 9 in. long with approx. 1.25 in. dial, manually wound, with a black leather wrist strap and black face. The face bears the maker's name "HELMA" above a small subsidiary dial, all above the label "SWISS MADE". The back is stamped "D11780H" with the maker's mark of renowned German watch manufacturer, "Stahlboden". The watch can still be wound easily, and it seems to be in good working order. Minor wear to the strap, else very good. Sold with an unsigned handwritten letter to our consigner from the watch's previous owner, an unidentified SS-Obersturmfuhrer who claims through the letter to have served as a driver with a Hitler-personal convoy in 1943, interestingly adding: "This watch you bought in USA I received from the Weapon["Waffen"]-SS as officer being in command. When I was in Russia's captivity I had a hiding place, I.E. I put the watch with a thread around my belly so it was next to my sexual organ, which the doctors did not touch and check"
