Description:

WAFFEN-SS ASSAULT GUN OFFICER AND KNIGHTS CROSS RECIPIENT'S WRAPPER AND UNIFORM TROUSERS
Rare uniform attributed to Waffen-SS Sturmbannfuhrer Bernhard Langhorst, commander of SS-Panzerjager Abteilung 20 and Knights Cross recipient. The gray-green wool wrapper has a six button closure at front, with two additional buttons which may be affixed to cloth loops fitted inside the garment. Collar tabs are high quality, both bearing black felt fields with braided silver thread trim, the tab denoting rank having the proper four pips and the SS tab constructed with metallic thread. Pink-piped officer's shoulder boards are sewn in, and a brass "P" is fitted to each, representing Panzerjager. An unusual and ornate bullion national eagle and swastika has been sewn to the left sleeve, and an Ost Medal ribbon is fitted at the top button hole. Loops for ribbons and medals are slightly distended, indicating use. Within, the jacket is fully lined in brown fabric and bears a maker's tag identifying Langhorst as the owner. The label reads: "IM AUFTRAG DES SS-BW-POSEN" with 1944 manufacturing date and size 48. Also present is a pair of field gray regulation trousers, four metal button fly with adjustment band at waist, slash pockets at front and pockets with button and flaps at rear. Legs terminate with drawstring closures. While the pants were obviously more often worn and bear some repairs, the wrapper remains in very good to near new condition. SS-Sturmbannfuhrer BERNHARD LANGHORST (1913-1996) fought in the Low Countries and France, then joined SS-Panzerjager Abteilung 20 and fought in the region of Silesia where he won his Knights Cross in 1945.
