Description:

(1894 -1918) British World War I flying ace credited with six aerial victories. Serving as Commander of the No. 3 Squadron, Barker became Manfred von Richthofen's penultimate victim and the last pilot to be fatally shot down by him on April 20, 1918. The following day, "The Red Baron" himself was shot down and killed. Good-content D.S. as commander of the No. 3 Squadron, 1p. 4to., Fregicourt and Combles, [France], March 24, 1918, a typed combat report by Captain P.W.S. Bulman regarding an aerial victory, in part: "...I dived on the E.A. firing 50 rounds at close range...later on, he approached our troops, and I got under his tail unobserved and fired 150 rounds at 200 yards range...he went down absolutely out of control...he could not possibly have pulled out of the dive..." Barker signs at the conclusion in blue pencil, less than one month before his death. Slight paper loss around the edges, insignificant hole in the top-left corner, else very good.
