VIRGIL I. GRISSOM
(1926-1967) American astronaut, a member of the original Mercury astronauts, killed in a flash fire in the Apollo 1 capsule. Early T.L.S. "Virgil I. Grissom" on NASA Space Task Group letterhead, 1p. 4to., Langley Field, Aug. 1, 1961, nine days after the flight of Liberty Bell 7, a form letter thanking a lady for her congratulations and thoughtfulness, adding: "...Your reaction as a fellow American has been most heart-warming to me. I am very proud to have been a part of this step in our space program...". Some ink notes on verso, else every good.
