Description:

Lot of two presentation medals for two separate World Championship bobsledding competitions, both held at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. The first medal, 2.75 x 3.5 in., is for the 1938 four-man team championship. The obverse features an image of a bobsled team racing down a track through the mountains, and bears a Nazi eagle at the bottom left. The reverse bears an inscription reading ‘Presented to M.S. Marabon Member of U.S.A. Bobsled Team At World's Championship 1938'. The bronze circular medal, 3.5 in. dia., is for the 1953 four-man team competition, and also shows an image of a team speeding down a track. Slight cracking to enamel. Both medals are presented in their original cases. Sold with six b/w photographs and photo postcards of varying sizes depicting bobsled competitors, and a signed waiver for the 1941 Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic run, signed by M.S. Marabon, recipient of the 1938 medal in this lot. Overall, very good.
