(1923 - 1999) Security administrator and head of the KGB from 1982 to 1988. Through information supplied by American spy Aldrich Ames, Chebrikov was able to dismantle the network of CIA operatives in his country. His years as KGB chief saw the heyday of the KGB in terms of foreign intelligence. Typed D.S. on KGB letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Moscow., Dec. 12, 1983, addressed to the Minister of Foreign Trade and detailing suspected 'wrongdoing' within his ministry, specifically an investigation into an oil company who took foreign contracts, amassed a large deficit, and potentially compromised secrets. In part: '...firms put Soyunzneft [?] export financially dependent on them, forcing them to provide these firms with beneficial contracts upon conclusion of sale that may entail damage to state interest.' Chebrikov signs the bottom of the second page as Chairman of the KGB. Trimmed at left, two partial file holes, else fine.
