FRANCIS VIGO (1747 - 1835) Spanish fur trader and Continental Army spy who outfitted George Rogers Clark and his ragged army, then sent by Clark to examine the defenses of Fort Sackville where he was arrested as a spy. Released as a Spanish citizen, he rejoined Clark to capture the fort. Rare manuscript D.S. 2pp. 4to., [n.p. but Indiana?], May 10, 1808, an indenture between Vigo and "William alias Guillaume Page ", for land in the "...Indiana Territory...in the prairie below Vincennes... " for the sum of seventy-five dollars. Boldly signed "Vigo " at conclusion. Minor fold tears and archival tape repairs thereon, otherwise very good. $700-900
