Description:

Original Vietnam War-era U.S. M1 combat helmet with rear seam and swivel bales, very lightly sand-finished in olive drab on the exterior of the shell, and with a smooth finish of the same shade within. The front interior of the shell is heat-stamped "2204", and the chin strap features a "breakaway"-style buckle. The shell is also fitted with a reversible Mitchell-pattern helmet cover, displaying a "green leaf" camouflage scheme and backed with a "brown cloud" pattern. The "brown cloud" side features a crisp inventory stamp giving a contract number of "8116", indicating manufacture in 1965. Cuts have been added between the fingers of the liner to better fit around the chin strap and bales, a modification that appears to have been done in the field. The shell is fitted with a correct olive drab-finished fiber liner, marked "US 28" within the dome. The exterior front shows two vertical blue "hash" marks, possibly rank marks. The liner lacks its chip or nape strap, but the rigging is otherwise correct. The shell shows some abrasions to the exterior and interior, the camouflage cover shows some holes and soiling, while the liner shows abrasions to the exterior and the rim, with a 1" crack at front, else very good.
