Description:

'VICTORY-DECORATED' CAPTURED JAPANESE LANDING FORCES HELMET
A superb Pacific War relic, a very rare Japanese Special Naval Landing Forces helmet shell, captured or otherwise taken from the Japanese and accordingly decorated for the surrender of Japan in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945. The helmet, apparently bearing its original green paint, has been overpainted with the names of dozens of battles in which Americans and their allies were engaged in the South Pacific, including Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Peleliu, Tarawa, Guadalcanal, Midway, and so on...and not including Pearl Harbor. The rear of the helmet reads: 'VICTORY TOKYO BAY SEPT. 2 '45' and the front and sides are further decorated with images of Japanese naval, army, and national flags. The paint is all gloss enamel, thick and of typical shipboard use, showing appropriate age. An exuberant, evocative relic!
