452. VICKSBURG "WALLPAPER" NEWSPAPER (REPRINT) Early reprint [ca. 1940?] of the famous July 2, 1863 Vicksburg newspaper, The Daily Citizen, which was originally printed on the verso of a sheet of wallpaper due to the shortage of newsprint in the besieged city. This edition is printed on floral wallpaper and bears the same text which the Union occupiers (who printed the paper) included at lower-right, teasing the Confederate soldiers and population in announcing that Grant had "caught the rabbit". Framed, very good. $200-300
