(1892 “ 1949) American army major general, lifelong friends with West Point classmate Dwight D. "Ike" Eisenhower and, during World War II, he commanded the 1st Armored Division from 1944 to 1945 during the Italian Campaign. Fine association group of four T.L.S.'s a"Vernon" on Department of the Army letterhead, 8pp. total 4to., Washington, 1949, all to CLARENCE R. HUEBNER (1888-1972), American major general who commanded the 1st Infantry Division in its assault on Omaha Beach, in the drive across France, at the Hurtgen Forest and in the battle of Aachen. Prichard, who had served under Huebner, discusses military politics, family news, etc. In part: "...the Commander for the First Army has not been designated...there might be an opportunity for a promotion [for you] if MacArthur and Clay should turn in their suits...considerable criticism...as result of the trials of the [Gestapo] officers in charge of the guard house at Wurzburg at the time a prisoner had his feet frozen. We had many inquiries from the press concerning your statement that plans for the invasion had been captured by the Germans on Omaha Beach...The promotion list has gone to the White House. I have not seen it. No news on Bedell Smitt...Malmedy keeps cropping up..." With carbon copies of Huebner's associated letters as well. Fine.
