Description:

VANDALIZED 'J'-STAMPED PASSPORT OF JEWISH STONE MASON
Passport issued to a Jewish stone mason 'Dr. Victor Neubrunn', issued the name 'Israel' by law and stamped with a large red 'J' on the first page. The 'reisepass' was issued to 48-year-old Dr. Neubrunn in Vienna on December 14, 1938. Quite well-stamped, page 11 bears a visa stamp issued in Vienna from May 20, 1939, authorizing a single journey from Amsterdam to Australia. An earlier page bears a checkpoint stamp from Zevenaar, a city in the eastern Netherlands near the German border, dated three days after the issue stamp and showing his transit to Amsterdam. Finally, Page 12 bears Sri Lankan entrance stamp from June 15, 1939, and the adjoining page bears a Sydney customs stamp dated July 23, 1939, marking his final entrance to Australia. Neubrunn's ID portrait bears a roughly hand-inked 'toothbrush' mustache akin to Adolf Hitler's, possibly a shocking act of vandalism. Covers absent, else fine condition.

Shipping

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
