Description:

GEORGE E. TOMLINSON (1906-1986) Major General, Engineers, USMC. As a colonel during World War II, he saw much combat in the New Georgia and Bougainville campaigns as 'Engineer Officer, Service Command, Fleet Marine Force Pacific', also served as 'Officer in Charge of all Engineering Supply in the South Pacific' and 'Task Force Engineer for Amphibious Operations' in the Peleliu, Angaur Island, and Ulithi Island campaigns. At war's end, Tomlinson was sent for occupation duty in northern China and Japan. Offered here is a ca. 1964 USMC officer's khaki tunic, tunic belt, trousers, belt, and necktie. Each lapel has non-matching screw back insignia, as is often seen. All buttons appear matching, and are back-marked and removable. Each shoulder has the double star insignia of a major general, mismatched but absolutely identical in appearance and bearing a fine patina. On the left breast is a custom-made ten-ribbon bar. Each ribbon is matching and has been hand-sewn on to a custom khaki cloth backing which matches the uniform. Ribbons include Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with a 'V' device for valor and with a bronze oak leaf cluster, the American Defense Service Medal, the "American Compaign Medal, the Asiatic/Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze stars, the WWII Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze star, and the Philippine Independence Ribbon. Also present is a fine pair of regulation trousers, with a USMC beVo-like cloth tag sewn within. There is also a trouser belt with buckle and a khaki tie. The tunic is half-lined with tailor's label: 'Lowe Tailors, 56 Maryland Ave., Annapolis, MD'. Sewn above this inner pocket is one of Tomlinson's custom-embroidered 'T' initial tags. This uniform is in mint condition, just beautiful, and a fine example for display. From a major private collection on public display.
