Description:

URIAH FORREST
(1746-1805) American statesman and military leader in the Revolutionary War, wounded at Maryland and lost a leg at Brandywine. A.L.S. 2pp. 4to., Georgetown, Sept. 9, 1799 to George Sibbald regarding Forrest's property in Georgia. In part: "…I rec'd your obliging favor of the 17th August…I feel very much obliged by your friendly interference in the protection of my property in Georgia. I have, as you have truly stated, paid dearly for this property, & it would indeed be hard to have it wrested from me. I should hope however, as my Deeds are regularly recorded, for all these lands, that the Title of which was even vested in Mr. Morris; & Mr. Seagraves engagements for those the legal estate of which is in him - that no process of Law could reach them. There is however something strange in Mr. Seagraves' conduct in now answering my letters. I have written four without the honor of any one of them being acknowledged by him. Mr. [James] Jones who is now a Member of Congress was so obliging as to have my Deeds recorded…but it may be necessary to have some person sooner, I will thank you to recommend me a proper person…I will thank you to protect the property…". With docketed integral address leaf, two light tape remains to verso, very good condition.
