His novels 'The Jungle' and 'The Money Changers' did much to reform the way business was conducted in the U.S. Nice collection of six letters, including five T.Ls.S. and one A.L.S., all signed ‘Upton' on his personal letterhead, various sizes, dated 1939-1940. Each letter is addressed to acclaimed journalist, ALBERT RHYS WILLIAMS (1883-1962). The A.LS., 2pp. oblong 8vo., California, Oct. 28, no year given, reads in part: ‘...In Boston, getting material for a novel on Sacco-V[anzetti]. Were you ever in Plymouth Cordage Co. strike?...if so, write me all about it...and I'll put you in the novel...' One of the T.L.S.s, 1p. oblong 8vo., California, Feb. 15, 1940, reads in part: ‘...Viking Press is going to publish ‘World's End' this Spring...publisher liked your summary of the novel so well that he has adopted it as his ‘blurb'...'. The remaining letters all contain good literary content in which Sinclair discusses his novels and the work of Williams. Accompanied by two unsigned pieces in connection with Sinclair, one of which regards his naming as a candidate for the Nobel Prize of Literature. Each piece bears some creasing throughout, overall very good.
