UNUSED $500 CONFEDERATE BOND CAPTURED BY A UNION SOLDIER IN OCCUPIED RICHMOND
An unusual piece, an unissued $500 8% Confederate loan certificate, 1p. folio, (17 3/4" x 15"), Richmond, 2 Mar. 1863, printed by Evans & Cogswell, Columbia, S.C. A very fine untrimmed example bearing a handwritten note at top: "Taken from the Treasury Department Richmond Va. April 8th, 1865." Usual folds, minor chip at top margin, mounting remnant on verso at top left, else near fine condition, quite crisps and overall quite clean.
