Description:

UNPUBLISHED HOLOCAUST PHOTOGRAPHY
A superb set of 15 unpublished candid photographs (most 2 1/2" x 2 1/2") taken by an American G.I. on or around May 3, 1945 and set on several album pages which also feature his notes on the subject matter. The first two photographs show a rock quarry and the surrounding countryside and is accompanied with a caption: "at Shonberg, Germany. May 3rd - was there when the war ended in Germany" The next page features images of graves being unearthed by captured SS men. The soldier writes, "It was evening - all these were dug up by 100 SS troopers out of a ditch with their hands and carried by them and layed [sic] on a hillside -- Each SS man had to dig eight a piece. I saw them myself and helped cuss them while digging. They were very thin as they were almost starved." The result, noted on another page showing the fruits of the captured German's labor was "800 dead labor slaves shot in head with wooden bullits [sic] 2 days after war was over at Sonburg, Germany taken my self as they were found. " Beside another image on the same page, he writes: "Nearby are 500 men uncovered in a ditch" A superb set of candid photographs. Photographs are all in all very good condition, pages ragged and worn, overall very good condition.
