Pair of good content U.C.V. letters. Includes: Trans-Mississippi UCV letter, 2pp. 4to., written, on colorfully printed "PAT CLEBURNE CAMP NO. 222, United Confederate Veterans" stationery, by John Moore, formerly of the 21st Texas Cavalry, Waco, Texas, 1913, to UCV Gen. Henry G. Ashew a veteran who served in the 2nd Texas State Cavalry. In part: "…I received your notice of my appointment as Quartermaster on your staff. I appreciate…the compliment, but I must be candid…I have always opposed all this Brigade business. I think it a…farce and ought to be abolished. The innumerable titles will lessen the honor…those who really earned them by service during the war …I was QM for the 3rd while Shaw was commander and never handled a cent-was "aide-de-camp" for Mill''s and didn''t "aid" anybody…the state and general organizations are all that is necessary…the Cotton Palace Exposition will be open from Nov. 1st to the 16th, saturday the 15th is "Confederate day." I would be glad to see you there…if you ever meet my companions Buck Walton or my 3 comrades in the Confederate Home Messrs [Pvt. W. Ratliff, formerly of the 26th Texas Cavalry as adjutant of the Bedford Forrest Post, Liberty Hill, Texas, 1915, also to Ashew, in part: "…we appreciate this kindness very much…our delegates will go to Houston in time to join the Dowlin special train for Richmond. We regret so much you cant go to this reunion. You have done so much for our Brigade since you have been our commander. We want you to get some pleasure after all this hard work…J. B. Ratliff."
