Description:

Unissued steel M1 combat helmet, fitted with swivel strap bales and a front-facing seam, indicating manufacture between 1943 and 1945. The exterior has been sand-finished in olive green, while the interior shows a smooth olive-green finish. The interior is heat stamped “368A”, the lack of any additional markings indicating manufacture by the McCord Radiator Co. The helmet is fitted with a Westinghouse liner, with a vent hole at front, displaying the size “Medium” on the nape band and marked “P” on one suspension band. The helmet shell is covered with olive-green camouflage netting. The exterior of the shell shows a few negligible dings, with some unidentified waxy residue, likely a preservative from storage. The metal fittings within the liner show some verdigris, else very good to fine. This helmet was included in a shipment delivered to the U.S. Naval Depot at Norfolk, Virginia in July of 1944, destined for issue to Navy and Marine Corps personnel. However, they remained in storage until being sold at auction in the late 1980’s. Unissued M1 helmets are highly desirable.
