UNION VICTORY NEWSPAPER EXTRA Rare "extra" broadside issued by the Nantucket newspaper, The Inquirer and Mirror, 1p. 9" x 15 1/2", [Apr. 3, 1865], with headlines offering hour-by-hour news of the taking of Petersburg and Richmond, and the burning of the capital of the South. The broadside's headlines declare: "GLORIOUS NEWS...PETERSBURG EVACUATED...RICHMOND CAPTURED!...VICTORY! REBELLION BROKEN!...RICHMOND ON FIRE!". Included are five announcements signed in type by Abraham Lincoln setting forth developments as they occurred, with additional news submitted by Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. This is news as it happened, and must have thrown its readers into a frenzy! Worn a bit at margins with one chip thereat, a tiny hole at one fold juncture and light toning overall, very good condition and an ultra-rare broadside, especially from Nantucket! $400 - 600
