Description:

UNION SOLDIER WRITES HOME ON A CONFEDERATE LETTER SHEET
Unusual, good content Union soldier's letter, 2pp. 8vo., Decatur, Apr. 7, 1862, in which Samuel D. Moses writes home to his sister Dora on Confederate letterhead picturing Jefferson Davis, flags, cannon, cotton bales, a steamer and so forth. In part: "...You will probably have heard of the fight at Corinth ere this reaches you; if so, you can account for our sudden departure from this place. Dr. Prince and I...have been ordered to our command by Gen. [Richard W. ] Johnson. I am extremely anxious to be there, and yet I dread to hear the account that I must necessarily hear on my reaching my battalion - for it was in the fight, I understand. Where I shall be placed...I am unable to say - probably with the sick and wounded, possibly in the ranks. In either event, I am prepared to do my duty. You shall all hear from me again...". Boldly penned and very good.
