Union Soldier's Letter Union officer's letter, 2pp. 8vo., Headquarters, Ist Me. Heavy Artillery, Petersburg, Jan. 12, 1865 A touching letter in which a Capt. Atherton advises the mother of a soldier of her sons death. Atherton informs the lady that her son had died bravely on the battlefield, wounded in both legs by shrapnel and taken towards the rear, dying en route. The officer warmly declares his feeling of loss, while praising the man's valor in battle. he also advises he that hee will forward the papers for settlement of her son's wages and bounty. An excellent but saddening letter.
