The place where we are is called Lime Stone Reach 3 miles from Berryville...We arrived at Lime Stone Reach on the 3d of September toward Evening as the fight Commenced, the Rebels charged on the 8th Army Corps...on our left, and the 8th Army showt [sic] as always cowardice enough, broke and ran, then the 19th Army boys...drove the Rebs very handsomely. There was heavy musket firing and Cannonading going on for an hour. The Rebs chargt 3 times on the 19th Corps and the Rebels was Repulsed every time...The 19th Corps is a good Corps and has brave men in it. Diere [sic] Friend I am ashamed to tell you that we have such men as the 8th Army Corps has in our Army. Further I will let you know that our Corps the 6th Corps...are on the Extreme right. The Rebs didn't trouble our Corps yet so far, we are strongly fortified. Yesterday in the evening there was some skirmishing going on...Everything is quiet along our lines so far...The main force of the Rebel Army is reported to be at Bunker Hill, a distance [of] 6 miles from where we are...".
