A.L.S. of Pvt. Charles Fowler of the 1st Ohio Light Artillery, 4pp. 8vo., "Camp Dick Robinson" [Ky.], Oct. 16, 1861 in pencil to his friend Edward, writing in part (with spellings retained): "...This a vary plesent place thare is about 14000 trupes here Tennensee rements her[e] as i were a coming up from the river i met a cuple of scouts whoo had a curmish with the rebels and drove them off and kild eight of them I thhink we will have a big fight befour long at Comberlin gap whare thar is 5000 rebels...". With original patriotic transmittal envelope. Fowler would eventually see action at Camp Wildcate, Mill Springs and Perryville. Some toning at folds and margins, else very good.
