Good lot of three items signed by notable U.S. Navy officers of the Civil War, includes: THOMAS T. CRAVEN (1808-1887) U.S. Navy officer who commanded the USS BROOKLYN and participated in the capture of New Orleans, as well as subsequent operations on the Mississippi River. A.D.S., 1p. 4to., New York, Feb. 9, 1841, an affidavit attesting to the good character of one James Griffin, who seeks an appointment as a naval gunner. Craven signs at the conclusion in black ink, adding his contemporary rank "Lt. U.S. Navy". Shows folds, with a small tear to the top edge and slight toning, else very good. WITH: THORNTON A. JENKINS (1811-1893) U.S. Navy officer, Chief of Staff to Admiral David Farragut at Vicksburg and Mobile Bay. Manuscript L.S., 1p. 4to., Washington, D.C., Nov. 29, 1870, to the editors of the "Congressional Globe". Jenkins requests that one copy of the journal be provided to the Office of the Light-House Board, and signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows folds, inlaid, else very good. WITH: CHARLES H. DAVIS (1807-1877) U.S. Navy rear admiral whose Western Gunboat Flotilla sank or captured seven Confederate vessels at the Battle of Memphis. Manuscript L.S. as Chief of the Bureau of Navigation, 1p. 4to., Washington, D.C., Feb. 17, 1865, informing his correspondents that they are receiving a fair price for their services. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original mailing folds, with mounting remnants to the verso, else very good. Three pieces.
