Includes: CHARLES STEEDMAN (1811-1890) Rear Admiral who commanded the steam frigate USS POWHATAN in blockading Charleston. Manuscript L.S., 1p. folio, Washington, D.C., Aug. 1, 1870, to Commander Walker of the USS SABINE, transmitting an order from Chief of the Bureau of Equipment William Reynolds, ordering a fortnight's leave for a Sabine crewmember, allowing him to transfer to the USS VERMONT. Steedman signs boldly at the conclusion in black ink, adding his title 'Commandant'. Shows original folds and slight toning, with the left edge slightly ragged, else very good. WITH: ALFRED TAYLOR (1811-1891) Read Admiral, Commandant of the Boston Navy Yard during the Civil War. A.L.S., 1p. folio, aboard USS SUSQUEHANNA at St. Catarina Bay, Brazil, Dec. 8, 1865, to Lt. Commander John G. Walker, recommending an honorable discharge for a seaman transferred from the Susquehanna to the USS SHAWMUT in November. Taylor signs at the conclusion in black ink, adding his rank 'Captain'. Shows original folds and slight foxing to the verso, else very good. WITH: THOMAS PATTISON (1822-1891) Commander of numerous gunboats in the Potomac Flotilla and South Atlantic Blockading Squadron, executive officer of USS PERRY at the time of her capture of the Confederate raider SAVANNAH. A.L.S. 'T. Pattison', 1p. 8vo., Mare Island Navy Yard, May 29, 1877, to his captain's clerk, William Hind, giving testimony as to Hind's competent service. Pattison signs at the conclusion in violet ink, adding his rank 'Captain U.S. Navy'. Affixed to a card backing with mounting material showing through, with the bottom left corner nearly detached, else very good. Three pieces.
