Good lot of three items signed by notable Union generals of the Civil War, includes: ALEXANDER S. WEBB (1835-1911) Union brigadier general who held the "Bloody Angle" against Pickett's charge at Gettysburg. Partly-printed D.S., 2pp. legal folio, New York, Nov. 15, 1883, an order for chemicals and other scientific supplies from the firm of Elmer & Amend. Webb signs on the verso as the president of the College of the City of New York, in black ink. Shows a horizontal fold at center with a 2" split thereto, else very good. WITH: SAMUEL ADAMS DRAKE (1833-1905) American journalist who served as a brigadier general of the Kansas militia. A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Kennebunkport, Dec. 9, 1903, to a Mr. Goss, regretfully declining to attend his correspondent's "Golden Anniversary". He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows some toning and minor soiling, else very good. WITH: WALTER Q. GRESHAM (1832-1895) Brigadier general of the militia who commanded a division of the XVII Corps in Sherman's Atlanta Campaign, later served as Postmaster General, Secretary of the Treasury and Secretary of State. T.L.S., 1p. 4to., Chicago, March 27, 1890, to Philadelphia attorney Erastus Brainerd. Gresham reassures his correspondent that several members of an unstated board of trustees are inclined to vote for him for a similarly unstated post. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows folds with a 1" split thereto at the bottom edge, else very good. Three pieces.
