Good lot of three items signed by notable U.S. Army generals of the Civil War, includes: DARIUS N. COUCH (1822 - 1897) Union major general who led a division at Second Bull Run, Antietam, Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg. Disgusted with Hooker, he offered to resign and was instead transferred to the West. A.L.S., 3pp. 8vo., Norwalk, March 15, 1892, to a Chris Hall. In part: "...My autographs have been so cut down since 65, that I only have Genl Wm B Franklin and Francis A Walker..." He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows a horizontal fold at center, else very good. WITH: SELDON CONNOR (1839-1917) Union brigadier general present at Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg and the Wilderness, twice wounded during the war and served postwar as governor of Maine. A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Portland, July 7, 1894, to a George Dow, graciously complying with his correspondent's request for an autograph. He signs boldly at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original mailing folds and a mounting strip to the verso, else very good. WITH: NEAL DOW (1804-1897) Union brigadier general twice wounded during the assault on Port Hudson, he was captured and confined at Libby Prison until exchanged for Rooney Lee. Later ran for president with the Prohibition Party. A.L.S., 1p. 12mo., Portland, July 1, 1887, to a Miss Burt, acknowledging the receipt of her note. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Show a horizontal fold at center, else very good. An A.N.S. from Dow's wife, Cornelia, informing the same correspondent of Dow's return, is also present. Three pieces.
