Good lot of three items signed by notable U.S Army generals of the Civil War, includes: JOHN F. HARTRANFT (1830-1889) Union major general who received a Medal of Honor for his bravery at Bull Run, and later read the death warrant of those convicted for plotting to assassinate Abraham Lincoln. A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Philadelphia, July 1, 1884, to "Richards", regretfully declining an invitation. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows mailing folds, else very good. WITH: JOHN A. DIX (1798 - 1879) Union major general most remembered for his threat to shoot anyone hauling down the American flag, and his suppression of the bloody New York draft riots. Partly-printed D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., Albany, Sep. 21, 1833, an order to pay an A. Douglass $9,000 in cash. Dix signs at the conclusion in black ink, with three other individuals countersigning. Shows two punch cancellations, not affecting Dix's signature, as well as folds with a slight split thereto at the right edge, else very good. WITH: CASSIUS M. CLAY (1810 - 1903) Union major general who refused to serve because emancipation had not been declared at the beginning of the war. He served as minister to Russia from Lincoln's until Grant's administration. Signature "C.M. Clay" in black ink on a 3 1/2" x 2" card. Shows mounting remnants and a pencil identifying inscription on the verso, else very good. Three pieces.

Shipments are sent via USPS Priority, USPS International Priority, FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight.
