Good lot of three items signed by Union generals of the Civil War, includes: JOSEPH G. TOTTEN (1788-1864) Union brigadier general who commanded the Army's Corps of Engineers. A.L.S., 1p. 4to., Washington, D.C. Jan, 24, 1855, to Capt. H. Coppie. Totten informs his correspondent that the Smithsonian institution, of which he was regent at the time of this writing, does not currently require any additional personnel to administer its library. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original mailing folds, ragged at the top edge, else very good. WITH: JAMES M. WARNER (1836-1897) Union brigadier general in charge of the defenses of Washington, later fighting at Spotsylvania where he was wounded, and at Petersburg and in the final assaults. A.L.S. "J.M. Warner", 1p. 4to., Albany, Feb. 23, 1897 (less than a month before his death), to an unnamed correspondent, giving exact details as to his command during the Petersburg Campaign and identifying his adjutant at the time. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original folds, else very good. WITH: FITZ-HENRY WARREN (1816-1878) Union brigadier general who fought from Vicksburg to Chattanooga, and at Lookout Mountain. A.L.S., 2pp. 4to., New York, Nov. 2, 1872, very nearly illegible but signed boldly at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original mailing folds, else very good. Three pieces.
