Good lot of three items signed by Union generals of the Civil War, includes: EDWIN V. SUMNER (1797-1863) Union major general who commanded a Corps at South Mountain and Antietam, as well as the Right Grand Division at Gettysburg. A.L.S. "E.V. Sumner", 1p. 4to., Carlyle, Feb. 8, 1835, to paymaster Maj. T.P., Audrey. Sumner requests that Audrey forward him an account. He signs at the conclusion in black ink, adding his contemporary rank "Capt. Dragoons". Shows original folds, with minor chips and soiling to the edges, else very good. WITH: JOHN W. SPRAGUE (1817-1894) Union brigadier general who led a division in the siege of Corinth, later commanded forces in Kansas, Florida and Missouri. A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Tacoma, March 4, 1892, to attorney J.T. Dennis, returning his correspondent's request for an autograph. He signs boldly at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original mailing folds and mounting remnants to the verso, else very good. WITH: JAMES SHIELDS (1806-1879) Union major general who commanded a division in the Valley campaign and in the Shenandoah. A.L.S. "Jas. Shields", 1p. 8vo., Carrollton, Nov. 18, 1873, to a Mrs. L. Bibas. Shields sends his regrets that he has not kept any letters from his old military colleagues which might be of interest to a collector, and signs boldly at the conclusion in black ink. Shows folds, a contemporary biographical inscription in black ink at the top edge, and a large ink spot likely left by Shields while writing the letter, else very good. Three pieces.
