Good lot of eleven items signed by Union brevet generals of the Civil War, includes: JOHN TILLSON (1825-1892), manuscript D.S., 1p. folio, Chattanooga, Feb. 6, 1864, an account of payment to a Cunningham Clifford, a teamster for the 10th Illinois Infantry. Tillson signs at lower left in black ink, adding his rank "Col 10th Ill Infty." Shows original folds, else very good. WITH: WILLIAM S. TILTON (1828-1889), partly-printed D.S., 1p. 4to., City Point, Sep. 30, 1864, a requisition form for stationery for an officer of the 22nd Massachusetts Infantry, signed by Tilton as approved in black ink and the left edge. Shows toning to the edges, minor splits to folds and chips to the right edge, else very good. WITH: CHARLES H. TOMPKINS (1830-1915), partly-printed D.S., 1p. oblong 4to., a list of quartermaster's stores transferred by Tompkins to another captain. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original folds with slight splits repaired on the verso with cello tape, else very good. WITH: EDWARD D. TOWNSEND (1817-1893), A.L.S., 3pp. 8vo., Washington, D.C., April 13, 1891, relating some biographical information on his wartime service, he signs at the conclusion in black ink, adding his rank "Brigdr. & Bvt. Maj. Genl. U.S. Army Retired", with a post-script below signed with his initials "EDT". Shows folds and slight toning, else very good, WITH: FREDERICK TOWNSEND (1825-1897), partly-printed D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., Albany, July 4, 1859, a certificate issued by the state of New York paying $55.00 to a citizen. Townsend signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows slight toning, else very good. FREDERICK E. TROTTER (1838-1892), manuscript D.S., 1p. 4to., Washington, D.C., Nov. 22, 1866, to an unnamed captain, soliciting donations for the publication of a volume on military history. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Bears an affixed biographical sketch, shows folds with minor splits thereto, else very good. WITH: LUTHER S. TROWBRIDGE (1836-1912), printed D.S., 7 1/2" x 7 1/4", [n.p., n.d.], a tax certificate, otherwise blank but for his signature in black ink. Shows several punch cancellations, none affecting the signature, else very good. WITH: JOHN B. VAN PETTEN (1827-1908), A.L.S., 1p. 4to., Key West, Dec. 22, 1862, to a Col. C.C. Dwight, describing his voyage from Fortress Monroe to Key West. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original folds and some bleed-through from another letter, else very good. Includes the original transmittal envelope. WITH: THOMAS M. VINCENT (1832-1909), signature in black ink on a 5" x 2" slip of paper, adding his rank "Asst. Ajt. General & Bvt. Brig. General U.S.A." and the date "May 7, 1866". Mounted to a backing sheet, shows slight toning to the edges, else very good. WITH: DAVID H. VINTON (1803-1873), A.D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., New York, March 1, 1847, acknowledging the receipt of several saddles and related items. Show a fold with slight splitting, with minor toning to the edges, else very good. WITH: DEWITT C. LITTLEJOHN (1818-1892), signature in black ink on a 4to album page, adding "Oswego NY". The page also bears the signatures of three U.S. Congressional representatives. Shows pencil identifying inscriptions, else very good. Eleven pieces.
