Good lot of ten items signed by Union brevet generals of the Civil War, includes: WILLIAM M. DUNN (1814-1887), manuscript L.S., 4pp. 8vo., Washington, D.C., April 27, 1886, to a Ben W. Austin. Dunn conveys his thanks for an honor bestowed upon him by the Northwestern Literary and Historical Society of Sioux City, Iowa, but plays down his bravery as he only served in a staff capacity. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows pencil biographical inscriptions on the first and final pages, else very good. WITH: ISAAC DYER (1820-1913), partly-printed D.S., 1p. folio, Pensacola, Jan. 31, 1863, a payment document to the chief clerk of the provost marshal's office, signed by Dyer at the conclusion in black ink approving the payment, and adding his rank "Col 15th Me. Vols." Shows original folds and slight toning at the edges, else very good. WITH: WILLIAM F. DRAPER (1842-1910), signature in black ink on a 3 1/2" x 2" card, adding his rank "Bvt. Brig. Gen. U.S. Vols. 1st Brigade 2nd Division 9th Army Corps". Very good. WITH: ALONZO G. DRAPER (1835-1865), printed E.S. in black ink, Point Lookout, May 21, 1864, affixed to an "Inventory and Inspection Report" of quartermaster's stores pertaining to the 5th Regiment of New Hampshire volunteers, also bearing the stamped signature of Maj. Gen. Benjamin Butler. Shows original folds, with slight soiling and toning to the edges, else very good. WITH: GEORGE B. DRAKE (1838-1921), printed D.S., 1p. 8vo., New Orleans, Nov. 23, 1864, a circular to troops under his command announcing the establishment of Thanksgiving Day as a holiday. He signs at the conclusion in red ink, adding his rank "Lt. Col." Shows folds, file holes at the left margin and slight toning at the edges, else very good. WITH: RICHARD C. DRUM (1825-1909), A.L.S., 1p. 12mo., Washington, D.C., Feb. 22, 1881, to President Rutherford B. Hayes, informing him that congressional action will be required to restore a Lt. Bickham to the Army. He signs at the conclusion in black ink as Adjutant General. Shows a horizontal fold, else very good. WITH: ROBERT MCALLISTER (1813-1891), signature in black ink on a 4 1/4" x 3 1/4" slip of paper, adding his rank "Bvt. Brig. Genl. N.J.V." and the place "Belvidere N.J." The slip is affixed to an 8vo. sheet of paper, which also bears a period 2 1/4" x 3 1/2" albumen photo of the general in uniform, later in life. Shows some wrinkling and pencil biographical inscriptions to the mounting sheet, else very good. WITH: ALEXANDER C. MCCLURG (1832-1901), A.L.S., 1p. 4to., Chicago, March 25, 1868, to a Benson Lossing, enclosing an undefined manuscript (not present), and signing at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original mailing folds, else very good. WITH: JAMES C. DUANE (1824-1897), A.N.S., 1p. 8vo. [n.p.], Oct. 31, [n.y.], to a Col. Spaulding, in full: "Where is the ponton [sic] train Have you heard anything of the three hundred mules from Washigton". He signs at the conclusion in black pencil, adding his rank "Maj. of En[gineers]". Shows original mailing folds and a small hole at lower center, ragged at the right edge, else very good. WITH: THOMAS DUNCAN (1819-1887), pre-war manuscript D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., Fort Ewell, Texas, July 1, 1853, a duplicate of a statement certifying that Duncan has turned over four horses condemned by a survey board. He signs boldly at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original folds, else very good. Ten pieces.
