Description:

Post-World War II U.S. Navy officer's dress sword, 32" blade, 38" overall, with a gold-washed brass hilt decorated with a botanical motif containing the initials "U.S.N.", as well as mythological dolphins and an American eagle and stars on the pommel. The grip is covered with white imitation rayskin and wrapped with braided brass wire, and a gold bullion portapee is attached at the pommel. The ricasso bears the maker's name Miyazima within an anchor, while the reverse ricasso bears the place of manufacture "Honcho, Yokosuka, Japan", indicating that it was purchased by an American naval officer stationed in Japan, likely circa 1950's-60's. The blade is decorated with numerous acid-etched botanical and naval motifs, including anchors and flags containing the initials "U.S.N." The blade is also inscribed with the name of the owner, Wilfrid Devine. The hilt and grip are slightly loose, with some spots of wear to the gold wash, else very good. The sword is housed in a brown leather-covered scabbard with brass hanging loops and drag, the latter in the form of a dolphin. Shows some scuffs and wear, else very good.
