BYRD (1888-1957), (1888 - 1957) American aviator and explorer, first to fly over the South Pole, established the base "Little America". T.L.S., 1p. 4to. (sight), Boston, Dec. 30, 1936, to F.H. Hooper, editor for the "Encyclopedia Britannica". Byrd send a New Year's gift (not present) and his best wishes, signing at the conclusion in black ink. WITH: WILLIAM A. MOFFETT (1869-1933), U.S. Navy admiral remembered as a father of naval aviation for his leadership of the Navy's Bureau of Aeronautics and his role in the creation of the Navy's first aircraft carrier. T.L.S. on Bureau of Aeronautics letterhead, 1p. 4to. (sight), Washington, D.C., May 15, 1926, also to F.H. Hooper. Moffett returns proofs for articles titled "Air Force" and "Air Ministry" (not present). He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Both pieces are matted and mounted in metal and wood frames, and show original mailing folds and minor toning to the edges, else very good. Two pieces.
