Description:

Fine example of a U.S. military issue Model 1904 "McClellan"-style equestrian saddle, approx. 19" x 14" x 10" (excluding stirrups), constructed from rich dark brown leather with a raised pommel at front and cantle at rear fitted with brass-shielded strap eyelets. The pommel shield is marked "12 In. Seat", and the front left-hand skirt is marked with the initials "E.H.S. C.B." The saddle is fitted with two stirrups, one bearing the embossed marking "U S" within an oval, as well as several different incised numerals. The second stirrup is maker marked as being manufactured by the Rock Island Arsenal, and again with the initials "E.H.S." The saddle also includes an original brown horse-hair cincha, with the one guard for the suspension rings also marked as being made by the Rock Island Arsenal. Shows appropriate wear from age and use, with some cracking to the seat and drying to the straps, and some verdigris to the brass fittings, else very good. Also present are a pair of contemporary leather-covered wood stirrups for a saddle of this style, both bearing the embossed initials "U S" within an oval.

Shipments are sent via USPS Priority, USPS International Priority, DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
