U.S. MARINE CORPS WOMEN''S RESERVE UNIFORM
Complete winter uniform of the U.S. Marine Corps Women''s Reserve, consisting of a forest green knee-length skirt with side-zipper closure, a forest green jacket with three buttons at front, and a forest green cap with red tasseled cord over the visor. A bronze Marine Corps "Eagle-Globe-Anchor" badge is affixed to the front of the cap, and similar badges appear on each lapel of the jacket. The jacket buttons further bear an eagle and anchor insignia. All three pieces bear cloth tags within identifying the owner as Marjorie McDavitt, while the cap further bears the size label "23". Women''s reserve was formed in February of 1943, and was intended to free officers and men for combat duty, to be replaced on shore station duty by women. It was deactivated in August of 1946, although approximately 300 members remained with the Marine Corps with an undefined status until the passage of the Women''s Armed Services Act in July of 1948.
