U.S. GUNBOAT LETTER
War-date Federal sailor's letter, 3pp. 8vo., "Gosport Navy Yard, Onboard U.S. Gunboat Morse, February 5, 1863", in which sailor Frederic Sherman writes, in part: "...The reason why C. Jackson was discharged was because he was sick of the Army I guess that is the reason...You said that you guess I would make a good book keeper when I come home...I have got a ring made out of the bell in this the rebels burnt it down. I got a piece and a man made it for me it looks just like gold. I have not been in irons since and will not before bad actions or losing the oars..." Very good.
