Description:

U.S. ARMY STUDY OF BULLET EFFECTIVENESS
A fascinating archive of material pertaining to a 1931 U.S. Army study: "Studies in Bullet Efficiency", 29pp. 4to., carbon copy, its main purpose being to determine the "character of wounds" produced by various bullets so that surgeons would be better able to treat battlefield injuries. The experiments were undertaken with a pointed "Spitzer" bullet fired at various ranges and velocities into anaesthetized pigs and material of a consistent nature. Various caliber weapons were also used. The tests, conducted at Maryland's Aberdeen Proving Grounds, are extensively described, going into details of air density, bullet yaw, and so on. In addition there are 26 approx. 8" x 10" photos of the set-up at the test site, and the bullets' effects on clay and the (unfortunate) test subjects. One page detached, else overall very good.
