Description:

Good pair of World War I-era U.S. Army recruiting posters, includes: immediately post-war recruiting poster, 18" x 19", titled "Battles Give Way to Sport in A[merican] E[xpeditionary] F[orces]". It is illustrated with nine captioned photos depicting soldiers enjoying a variety pf recreational activities in England and the continent, including pole vaulting, a vaudeville performance, swimming, mule and "soup wagon" races, and more. The poster continues at bottom: "How would you like to be with Uncle Sam's privileged tourists? Why worry about the hot weather or a job? Take a cool and comfortable ocean voyage. See Hawaii, Panama, or the Philippines, and better yourself by attending the Vocational Schools. Earn-Learn-Travel." A publishing line at bottom left indicates that the poster was produced by the Government Printing Office. Shows a few small folds, else very good. WITH: a second wartime or immediately post-war recruiting poster, 19" x 24", titled "What You Gain If You Go Into The Army", and presenting a list of seven benefits, including furloughs, bonuses, flexible enlistment periods, travel opportunities, vocational education, and more. It continues below: "Think It Over!! Are you sure the job you left when you came into the Army is waiting for you?", with a space for the address of a local recruiting office, blank in this instance. Shows a few small chips to the edges, else very good. Two pieces.

Shipments are sent via USPS Priority, USPS International Priority, DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
