Description:

GENE TUNNEY (1898-1978) American boxer who defeated Jack Dempsey twice for the heavyweight championship. War-date T.L.S. on Navy Department Bureau of Naval Personnel letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, Sept. 8, 1944, to Curtis Freschel, in part: "...I am delighted to have your letter...and copy of the one you sent to Bernard Shaw...The letter to Shaw is very amusing and if you get a reply from him I would be interested in seeing a copy...Look into the matter of the food baskets for prisoners, sent by the Red Cross. Possibly there will be other opportunities through Red Cross contributions to people other than war prisoners...I think, insofar as American prisoners in Germany go, that there will be little opportunity to do anything for them...". With one holograph emendation, very good. $250-350
