Description:

Very interesting and unusual printed document (unsigned), 4pp. 4to., Berlin, April 8, 1940, an official directive issued by the "Oberkommando der Wehrmacht" ("High Command of the Wehrmacht") and titled "Betr.: Behandlung judischer Mischlinge in der Wehrmacht" ("Subject: Treatment of German Mongrels in the Wehrmacht"). In short, the order dictates that soldiers with less than fifty percent Jewish heritage, or who are married to Jewish women or women with fifty percent Jewish heritage, are to be relegated to the reserve, with their files marked "do not use" to restrict them from military duties. surprisingly, men with twenty-five percent or less Jewish heritage are permitted to remain in the Wehrmacht, and to receive promotions when special permission is given. The order is signed in print at the conclusion by Chief of the Armed Forces High Command Wilhelm Keitel. Interestingly, the interior pages list the definitions of Jewish heritage under the 1935 Nuremberg Laws, and the OKW's own guidelines, again signed in print at the conclusion by Keitel. Both sections are marked "Geheim!" at top. The final page features a blank form allowing the individual soldier to attest to the heritage to themselves and their spouse. Shows small folds overall, with small tear to the right edge, and a paper clip mark to the top left corner, else very good.
