TRAUDL JUNGE ON HITLER'S LAST DAY
(1920 – 2002) German secretary who worked as Adolf Hitler's last private secretary from December 1942 to April 1945. After typing out Hitler's will, she remained in the Berlin Führerbunker until his death. Outstanding typed manuscript, signed, 1p. 8.5 x 14 in., [n.p., n.d.], a lengthy description of Adolf Hitler's last day and her interaction with him and Eva Braun. In small part: '…April 30 began like all the days that preceded it…We lunched with Hitler, and the conversation at table was the same as the day before and the day before that…A death feast, marked by an appearance of calm…After a short time Otto Gunsche appeared. 'Come on,' he said. 'The Fuehrer wants to say goodbye.'…The Fuehrer looked more stooped than ever as he came out of his room and moved slowly towards us. He offered his hand to each of us, and as he shook hands with me, he looked straight at me, but I knew he didn't see me…He whispered some words that I couldn't make out…It was only when Eva Braun came up to me that I came to my senses. She was wearing Hitler's favorite dress…Her hair was beautifully done…'Please try to get out of here' she said…'Give my love to Bavaria'…Then she turned and went with the Fuehrer into his room, to her death. The heavy iron door swung shut behind them. Shortly before, she had invited me into her bedroom…She had taken out a superb silver fox coat…'…this is my farewell present to you…wear this and enjoy it'…after the door shut…I was seized by a wild desire to get as far away as possible…I remembered the six Goebbels children, abandoned down there…they were wandering about looking for their parents or for Aunt Eva…Suddenly a shot rang out, so close that it silenced us all. The sound echoed around the bunker. 'Right on target!' yelled little Helmut…" Fine condition.
