TOWANDA BANK, PENNSYLVANIA STOCK CERTIFICATES (10)
Good lot of ten early partly-printed stock certificates on laid paper, each approx. 3 x 6.25 in., all appointing attorneys to sell ten shares in the capital stock of the Towanda Bank of Towanda, Pennsylvania. The earliest, dated May 22, 1841, appoints John G. Boyde to transfer the shares to himself, and is signed by J. Henry M. Prevost, with a witness countersigning. Four additional examples, dated Aug. 12 and Nov. 4, 6, and 8, 1841, appoint Christopher L. Ward to sell the shares to George Frick, in the August example, and William Ward in the remainder, each signed by a different individual and witnesses. The remaining four are undated but contemporary, and appoint Christopher Ward to transfer the shares to William Ward, each signed by a different individual and granting the recipient the power to receive dividends on the shares. All show slight folds at the corners but are otherwise in very good to fine condition.
