WEBSTER STREET Tombstone attorney and magistrate. Manuscript D.S. as judge, 3pp. legal folio, [Tombstone], June 25, 1885, a writ in the case of JAMES RILEY vs. A. J. RITTER, Tombstone City Treasurer concerning salary warrants. Clean fold splits else very good. Irish-born Riley ran a grist mill in Mexico, killing a man there before escaping to the U.S. He held a number of jobs before being elected Yuma County D.A. and later a magistrate in Tombstone where Earp arrested him in his own courtroom. Ritter is best remembered for his engagement as coroner following the Fremont Street gun battle in October, 1881. Ritter's firm buried the Billy Clanton and the two McLaury brothers.
