Rare, excellent content document, 1p. 4to., New York, May 20, 1912, a "PASSENGER DEPARTMENT" statement (carbon copy) issued by the White Star Line concerning the disposition of personal possessions recovered from the body of a TITANIC victim. The document reads, in part: "...I hereby solemnly state that I am lawfully entitled to take possession of all the personal effects...taken from the body of TYRELL W. CAVENDISH, a passenger on the 'Titanic'...I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the White Star Line against the claims of any person on account of said effects...7 [Pounds] in gold, 1 Gold watch, 1 Pair gold cuff links, 1 Gold stud, 1 Fountain pen, 1 Pencil, 2 Check Books...". Old tape reinforcement at margins shows through but affects nothing, else very good. Cavendish (b. 1875) boarded the Titanic at Southampton with his wife Julia Florence Cavendish and her maid Nellie Barber. Mrs. Cavendish and Ms. Barber were rescued in Lifeboat No. 6 but Mr. Cavendish perished, his body recovered by the MACKAY-BENNETT.
